Quote Feed Privacy Policy

Version 3.2, 27 September 2026

Quote Feed is an app in which you scroll through short claims. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no advertising. This page sets out exactly which data the app sends and why.

Who is responsible

Quote Feed is developed by Michael Sulsters, who is the data controller under the GDPR. Contact: tinusdesultan@gmail.com.

What the app sends

When you view, like or share a quote, the app sends a small message to our own server. That message contains only:

ItemWhat it is
Installation IDA random number the app makes up on first launch. It is not derived from your phone and it is not shared with other apps.
Quote IDWhich quote it concerns, for example Q014.
KindViewed, read, liked, like undone, or shared.
Reading time Only with a “read” event: how many seconds the claim was on screen, rounded to a tenth and capped at 45 seconds. It tells us which claims people actually stop for.
TimeWhen it happened.
App versionFor example 1.0.

What is not in there. No name, no email address, no phone number. No device model, no iOS version, no language setting. No location. No advertising identifier. Your IP address is not stored and is not used to recognise you.

Fetching new claims

Separately from the above, the app checks our server for new claims. That request carries the same installation ID in a header, and nothing else. We use it for two things: to keep one app from hammering the server, and to notice when something that is not an app is pulling the whole catalogue. It is not combined with the events above to build any kind of profile.

What stays on your phone

The order of the feed adapts to what you like and to which claims you stop and read. That happens entirely on your phone: what you liked, what you read for how long, and which claims you have already seen are stored on the device and are never sent anywhere. The server never learns what any individual person prefers. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What we use it for

Only to see which quotes work and which do not, so we can write better ones. The figures are totalled across all users; we do not look at individual installations. The counts are not shown anywhere in the app.

Why we are allowed to

The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Usage statistics are off by default: the app sends nothing and stores nothing until you switch them on yourself under the information screen. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it, with the same toggle. What we do with it is measuring the use of your own app in order to improve it. That is why we keep the collection as small as possible, and why you can switch it off.

You can change your mind

In the app, under the information screen, there is a Usage statistics toggle. Turn it off and the app sends nothing at all. Everything else keeps working.

Deleting your data

The same screen has a Delete my data button. It wipes everything attached to your installation ID, immediately and without anyone in between. Your installation ID is shown there too, so you can note it down if you want to ask us something by email later. Without that ID we cannot find anything: there is nothing else pointing your way.

How long we keep it

Individual events are deleted automatically after 90 days. What remains after that is aggregated counts per quote, which cannot be traced to anyone.

Who else sees it

The server runs at Railway Corp., which processes the data solely on our instructions (a processor within the meaning of Article 28 GDPR). Where that processing takes place outside the European Economic Area, it does so under the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, as set out in the data processing agreement with Railway. There are no other recipients: no ad network, no analytics service, no social media.

Sharing to other apps

When you share a quote, iOS opens its own share sheet. Whatever you pick there (WhatsApp, Messages, anything) falls under that app's privacy policy. We only learn that you tapped share, not where it went.

A link travels with the image, to a page on this same server that carries the claim, the reasoning and the source. Whoever opens that link is contacting us, so our server briefly sees their IP address to keep one visitor from pulling the whole catalogue. It is not written down and it is not linked to you or to them.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 16.

Your rights

For access or correction we need your installation ID; you will find it in the app's information screen.

Changes

If anything material changes about what we collect, we raise the version number at the top of this page and show it in the app before it takes effect.
